Spachtelhintergründe - squeegee backgrounds

Samstag, 7. Juli 2012

***
It's Saturday again which means time for a new issue of Stempeleinmaleins. Today we introduce a technique which have been popular some years ago when we didn't have such beautiful pattern papers. We want to show you squeegee backgrounds.

 CAS Karte mit Spachtelhintergrund
***
CAS card with squeegee background

Das braucht ihr:
- festes weißes Papier
- Acrylfarben
- Spachtel/eine alte Checkkarte
- feuchtes Tuch
- eine Unterlage, die eingesaut werden kann
***
You need:
- thick white paper
- acrylic paints
- squeegee/old credit card
- wet cloth
-  an underlayment that is allowed to get dirty

***
The squeegee technique is really simple. Just add a blur of color to your white paper...

***
... and pull it with the squeegee/old credit card over the paper. You can pull the color over the edges, pull only small pieces or make shapes. Just try it out.

***
Now you know why you need an underlayment which is allowed to get dirty! Repeat the first step with the same color several times.

***
Now take a second color. BEFORE pulling the new color over the paper please clean your squeegee/old credit card! Now add a blur of the new color to your paper, drag the color and repeat this step several times.

Farbe Nr. 3.
***
Color no. 3- Add the color spots to the still white spaces and pull it over the paper.

Farbe Nr. 4.
***
Color no. 4. Of course you don't have to use so many colors! Just take the colors you want/have. A gold, silver or chopper looks great, too!

***
As my paper got too dark after using the purple I added some yellow and green again. You see that the pattern changed again.

***
And if you let off steam you look like this *smile*.

***
The squeegee background will need some time to dry before you can work on. In the meantime you can make some other squeegee backgrounds or color your images matching to the paper!

***
I made this card with a piece of the squeegee background shown above.
Tip: I tried to stamp a sentiment to the background itself but it totally blurred. Please think about this while working with these backgrounds.

Here are some more squeegee backgrounds which I made in 2005:

Farben: Elfenbein/Silber
***
Colors: Ivory/Silver

Farben: Weinrot/Kupfer
***
Colors: Ruby/Chopper
(here I didn't pull the color over all the edges)

***
Colors: Green/Ivory
(here I pulled Ivory only short parts)

Farben: Lila/Kupfer
***
Colors: Purple/Chopper

Farben: Blau/Gelb/Kupfer
(hier liegt der Mittelpunkt links)
***
Colors: Blue/Yellow/Chopper
(here's the center on the left)

Maybe you want to try this technique yourself now. Have fun trying!
